This afternoon, I wrote 300 words of fiction. The writer Sarah Waters aptly described the feeling of doing so as “like shitting a brick.” Then, I went for a super long walk from 81st through Hell’s Kitchen and back to the Upper West Side. I tend to do such things in the summer, even though it’s probably too hot. The walk made me think about Pride, which this year is June 27th, the day I leave for Israel. I’m sad to miss it; last year D was here and we watched the parade go by before we marched with the CBST folks and then plodded through the insane crowds in the Village over to 14th street, exhausted and sweaty and joyful.
You should go to Pride this year, even if you don’t live in New York-actually, especially if you don’t live in New York. Here’s a calendar of Pride events in various places (don’t say I never did anything for you). Also, in honor of the 40th anniversary of Pride Weekend in Los Angeles, the LA Jewish Journal has launched a new blog, Oy Gay. You can read my posts there starting on June 28th.
